"You know when you can feel someone with you? And even though not everyone believes in that person, you know they're there?" - If you Could See me Now
Captivating!
As everything Cecelia Ahern touches, just a few pages in it turns into gold. I'm always amazed by how she manages to add the exactly right amounts of magic, mystery, love and humanness to make for a perfect story.
Elizabeth adopted her nephew after her sister started showing signs of becoming just like their mother, who abandoned them when they were young. Elizabeth, after having to grow up too fast raising her younger sister and now her nephew, only feels secure when her world is deeply based in reality. She's not one for fun or imagination, and believes that hard work is the best way to stay relatively sane. Out of the blue one day her nephew, Luke, has an imaginary friend, Ivan. Elizabeth starts to worry that his mind is going much like his mother's and does everything she can to make his friend go away. Eventually though she meets Luke's friend Sam's dad, whose name is also Ivan and says the same silly phrases Luke has been saying recently. So this is where his imaginary friend came from, at least he isn't so crazy after all.
Ivan is in the business of making friends, meaning only those who need a friend can actually see him. There is nothing imaginary about him since he is real as real can be. When Elizabeth starts to see him he's not sure what to do, most of his friends are usally younger. But if Elizabeth can see him that means that she needs him and he's not about to let a new friend down!
This book has pulled at all my heart strings. It deals with the emotions that come with family problems, loving people, how to deal with children and the hardest part of all: letting go.
A fun read to pick up at anytime and chuckle through. I appreciate the character growth, as fantastical the circumstances. It's whimsical and incredibly endearing. Also makes me want to visit Ireland!
An amazing story which will take you by the whole way. I highly recommend this book as a book not to be missed.
